Summer Nature Camp Counselor (Seasonal)

4.2 Temporary 19 hours ago Full Job Description The Town of Brookline Recreation Department is seeking energetic, responsible people for counselor positions in our nature-based summer camp for children ages 5-13. This is a unique camp program which emphasizes hands-on, field-based, experiential learning in a small intimate setting. Camp counselors will supervise campers in the classroom and on daily field trips, lead games and activities with campers, be a positive and engaging presence with campers and interact with them throughout the day. Additional duties will include driving a 12-passenger van to all off-site locations, dealing with minor discipline issues, and working with the Nature Camp Director on enforcing camp rules and behavior expectations. Counselors will also have the opportunity to participate in local field trips such as gardening, hiking, fishing, and overnight camp-outs (if restrictions allow). Schedule: Camp runs from July through August. Counselors must be available all weeks from July 6th through August 27th 2021; some flexibility to end earlier. Time commitment is 8:15AM-3:15PM Monday through Friday. Some pre-camp planning and training will be involved. Qualifications: Applicants must have at least some previous camp and/or children's program experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience; experience in science or nature programs a plus, excellent communication and management skills with children and adults, and a love of nature and outdoor adventures. Current First Aid and CPR certification is required; classes are available through the Recreation Department. Additional Requirements: Applicants must be 18 years or older. Current driver's license and minimum 2 years driving experience. Employment depends upon successful completion of CORI and SORI. Rate of Pay: $16/hr. Application deadline is May 1st, 2021. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
