In the mid-1990s, IKEA commissioned award-winning furniture designer Carina Bengs to create the Gilbert Chair. Here are her thoughts on it:"It was an exciting challenge to create a unique new design of this type of layer-molded chair. I wanted GILBERT to be both simple and elegant, but practical too. The result is a smart two-piece construction that allows the back to flex independently, instead of the entire chair moving. I also made it stackable so you can fit many chairs on a small space, because this is the chair that will make you want to throw a party!"These three vintage Gilbert Chairs are in superb condition. o The back and seat are made of birch veneer. o The legs are super-sturdy and durable, made of chrome-plated steel. o The chairs can be quickly and easily stacked upon one another for storage purposes. o The color is IKEA's iconic black-brown.
